See 5 WhatsApp Settings You Probably Never Knew Existed.

WhatsApp which currently has over 700 million users has since become a large social network used both by the young and the old, especially in Nigeria. Friends, family and associates can be messaged with little or no cost. Pictures, videos and music files can also be sent with ease.

However, despite it wide use, many users have not really explored the app. Below are 5 setting you probably never knew the app has.

1. Automatic download of Photos/video/music sent by friends can be disabled

By default, all images/photos sent to you are downloaded automatically into your phone, whether you want them or not. This can be very annoying and even eat up your precious phone memory.
You can turn this off by locating WhatsApp's Settings menu on your phone, select Chat Settings and then turn the Save Incoming Media option to off.

2. Message Preview Shown Above the Screen when a message enters can be disabled

In the notification sent to your phone when a whatsApp message is delivered, a preview of the message sender and possibly a little of the message content shows momentarily for a few seconds above your screen.
Sometimes you may not want a nosy person staring at the activity on your phone while you use it to know what the message sent to you is all about. You can do something about it

Go to Settings, select Notifications and change the Show Preview"option to off. Now you'll just get a notification that says, Message from Name, rather than a preview (little hint) of the actual message.

3. Prevent Friends from seeing the last time you were Online

By default, Your whatsApp Privacy Settings allows everyone (both those your list and not on your list) to know and see the last time you were online. But, sometimes due to reasons best known to you, you may not want some people to know the last time you were online. You can prevent them from knowing.
Go to Settings, select Account > Privacy > Last Seen. Here, select the category of people you don't want to known when you were last seen (Everyone, My Contacts, Nobody). However, be warned if you hide your last seen data, you won't be able to see anyone Else's.

4. Messages can be Backed up

Yes, you can also backup your messages for reference purposes.
Go to Settings > Chat Settings > Chat Backup. You can choose Auto Backup to store chats in your iCloud account on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, depending on your choice.

5. GPS Enabled phones can share Your Location

Yes, you can share your current location with a friend. Though this is only possible on GPS enabled phones.
To make sure you've set this up on your phone, go into any chat and hit the arrow icon to the left of the text box. Select Share Location. If you haven't set it up, follow the prompts to do so. If you already have, you'll see the option to send your location to another WhatsApp user. You can either send map data or choose from a list of nearby Google Map locations.
