8 Steps To Help You Remember What You Read Easily

Have You ever wondered why that guy or girl in your class who spends the whole night cracking his or her, reading, fails when results show up, while another who makes no seen 'serious' effort gets the best grades??
The main aim of reading is to understand and be able to in some way, reproduce what you read. Although, some have adopted the method of cramming. You could spend the whole night (TDB), legs soaked in water and still yet have nothing to show for it.

What could be the cause of this?

Many of us do not really know the technique that will help us grasp what we read. You do  not have to do TDB before you feel well read or prepared to write a test or exam. You could on getting to the exam hall, forget everything you read, and you end up booking a space among the ceiling box counters...aah! that's not a good feeling!

First and Fur most, you can recall what you read if you decide it matters enough to know and remember. This is very important as it will help you find the motivation to absolve information and improve the rate of your retention.

1st Step:  Skim information slowly first to remember what you read.Skimming means to brush up  the surface of what you're about to read. However, do not use it as a primary means of reading or  absorbing the information  you intend to get, but always as a preparation for gathering key points.

2nd Step:  Read word groups or phrases with all concentrations, rather than single words. You can do this by developing the habit of snapping your eyes across or down the page of the book or material.

3rd step:   Categorize and associate the information you read to other knowledge you've gathered previously in your life. This is to help you build a base for establishing facts.

4th Step:  Jot down notes on significant facts and information you come across while reading books or studying for a test or exams; say the words aloud to yourself and help commit it to your memory. Repeat the process again and again until you're satisfied.

5th Step: Study with confidence and Purpose. Interact with the material. Close the material periodically and paraphrase what you read, then compare to see how close you are. Groom yourself with questions to reinforce the lessons and information you gather.

6th Step: Visualize faces with names or words that have to be remembered. Say you're reading a book and you come across some literature, you could use an important person like Wole Soyinka to associate the important part of that text or a word. Also, link important dates with your assignments mentally by picturing significant calendar events, birthdays, church activities, holidays e.t.c, near the newly learnt date so you don't forget.

7th step: Concentrate with purpose on one thing at a time; a paragraph, sentence or a word. Move away from distractions like your phone, loud music, chatting friends, television and any other form of distractions. Focus on the meaning of the paragraph, sentence or word and test to make sure you have it in your head before moving on.

8th Step: Pay attention to the times of the day when you are feeling bright, strong and most alert and schedule your study time accordingly. And remember, do not rush, take your time, one thing at a time.
