How To Land Your Dream Job Using Social Media

Surveys have found that more than 3 quarter of job-recruiters use social media to source talents. While this has improved access, studies have also shown that on of 3 employers have passed on candidates because of something found on a candidate's media profile.

For those of you looking to catch the eye of your dream company, keep the following tips into mind when it comes to constructing your professional online identity.

1. Create Relevant Profiles
Quality over Quantity is important in this step. Decide which social profiles you wish to maintain and build them up to include your job history (if you have any).
Be consistent, demonstrate not only what you've accomplised, but also what your strenghts are and aslos, ehat you can offer your future employers.

2. Stay Networked and Engaged
Connect with others in the industry (e.g IT, Marketting, Law, engineering, e.t.c) in which you wish to grow. Follow, subscribe or like the companies you are targetting. This will ensure that you receive notifications on new hires(recruitment), product developmenmts and other relevant news. This could also help during your interview.

3. Be Known As a Resource
Help out others by answering questions, making useful comments and posts, and liniking to engaging contents. It can be very apparent if you have a one-sided "what is in it for me" mentality or only promote yourself.
If you're seen as a thoughful and active person to keep up with, your social capital will grow.

4. Avoid Professional Exchanges on Social Sites (Don't ask for a job)
Make connections with the right people and let your statuses and posts do the rest.

5. Build a Plan
Observe the following

Day 1: Work out a Plan
Day 2: Join networking groups
Day 3: Follow potential Companies of your dream

The point here is not to try and do too many discrete tasks all day, everyday.

6. Revamp/Rejuvenate/Strengthen Your Job Search
many Companies have social media geared specifically towards talent acquisition. Improve your odds(weakness) by looking for and following the hiring company's career feeds, Facebook posts, pages, LinkedIn groups, e.t.c
